What does ‘change’ mean to you? Is it something external that just happens to you, or is it something you initiate? For me, I believe you should always be the one to initiate change in your life. In my case, I decided to make a change in my career by joining the Sephora Hong Kong family as a Junior Beauty Advisor. Even though I had zero experience or background in the beauty industry, Sephora welcomed me with open arms! I am truly thankful for having a very supportive team, and with their guidance and help, I became the first batch of cast members to open our flagship store as well as our second store within 3 months!

Making Mistakes and Learning from Them

After gaining some experience from working with the store team, I seized the opportunity to enact my first big change in my career with Sephora by applying for the Marketing Executive role. Unfortunately, with the challenges that were brought about by COVID-19, we were unable to proceed further. Yet, the company made my dreams come true by creating an opportunity for me to support the team for 6 months. I have grown so much over this period whereby I made tons of mistakes but quickly learned from them! I’m so thankful my team is set up in a way where we have a “safe space” to make mistakes and learn from them, so to speak. After all, who doesn’t make mistakes? The important thing is to learn from them and not repeat them again.

Within that short period of time, I was involved in video shoots, supported the launch of campaigns with external parties, and managed Sephora’s one year anniversary lucky draw initiative! My hard work finally paid off – I was promoted to Beauty Advisor!

After my amazing time with the Marketing team, I was given another opportunity to grow my career. I was invited to join the merchandising team to support visual merchandising for 6 months! I utilized my experience as a cast member and in marketing to inject creative ideas into this role.

I have now officially become a part of the Merchandising team as a Visual Merchandising Executive. I can’t wait to make a difference in creating the best shopping experience for our beauty customers.
